Her films have won over a dozen prestigious prizes including best adventure film at Banff &amp; Kendal Mountain Film Festivals. She regularly gives slide presentations and writes magazine articles, nationally and internationally. Justine was previously a competitive sportswoman, winning 9 Blues at Cambridge university and representing England at hockey at Universities level. At Cambridge University, where she graduated with a science degree, she was also president of \u201cThe Ospreys\u201d, the Cambridge University womens sporting association.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSC_3059-940x360.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-event-post-thumb wp-image-12387\" src=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/DSC_3059-940x360-630x300.jpg\" alt=\"dsc_3059-940x360\" width=\"630\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once Justine left university she worked as a Television journalist and then a multi-skilled programme maker, learning the skills necessary to tell a story using moving pictures. She also discovered the world of nature and adventure and put down her hockey stick in\u00a0favor\u00a0of a kayak paddle, a mountain bike and hiking shoes! She went on many adventures including biking across the\u00a0Pyrenees\u00a0mountains from coast to coast, trekking in the Himalaya &amp; climbing the almost 7,000 metre Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas (which she filmed for a National Geographic series). In 2002, she competed for England in the surf kayak world championships winning several of her heats and helping England to 4th position.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/p1010047.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-event-post-thumb wp-image-12389\" src=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/p1010047-630x300.jpg\" alt=\"p1010047\" width=\"630\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More recently, Justine has focussed on challenging seakayaking journeys and was named as one of the UK\u2019s top living explorers. She was invited to meet the Queen at a Buckingham Palace reception for adventurers.\u00a0 Her sea kayaking expeditions include;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first all-female <a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/shop\/tasmania-download.html\" target=\"_blank\">circumnavigation of Tasmania<\/a> \u2013 \u00a0900-miles in 42 days.<\/li>\n<li>A solo trip around Iceland\u2019s West Fjords<\/li>\n<li>A 400mile journey up the Pacific coast of Kamchatka with Hadas Feldman and a novice Russian sea kayaker.<\/li>\n<li>A 500mile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yq8pYsMSsoU\" target=\"_blank\">circumnavigation of the Queen Charlotte Islands<\/a> with Shawna Franklin &amp; Leon Somme<\/li>\n<li>A kayak crossing of the eastern Bass Strait, island-hopping between mainland Australia and Tasmania<\/li>\n<li>The first kayak circumnavigation of Wales ( by sea, river and canal) with Fiona Whitehead<\/li>\n<li>A 2400km <a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/shop\/new-zealand-south-island-download.html\" target=\"_blank\">circumnavigation of the South island of New Zealand <\/a>taking 67 days, with Barry Shaw<\/li>\n<li>A 500 mile <a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/shop\/sardinia-download.html\" target=\"_blank\">circumnavigation of Sardinia<\/a>\u00a0with Barry Shaw<\/li>\n<li>3 crossings of the Irish Sea of between 45-57 nautical miles \u2013 from Anglesey to the Isle of Man, from the Llyn Peninsula to Wicklow in Ireland and from Holyhead to Dublin. All the crossings were done in strong following ( or side) winds. The Llyn- Wicklow Crossing was on New Years Day, one of the shortest ( and coldest) days of the year.<\/li>\n<li>A crossing from mainland Scotland to Shetland, via the Orkney islands and Fair Isle<\/li>\n<li>Kayaking 120 miles from London to France in 50 hours &amp; kayaking from Russia to Japan in a series of open water crossings \u2013 both with <a href=\"\/\/www.sarahouten.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Outen<\/a>.\u00a0See the film on \u2018This is the Sea 5\u2032<\/li>\n<li>Becoming the first people to kayak 1000 miles around \u2018Isla Grande\u2019, Tierra Del Fuego \u2013 a remote windswept Patagonian island, with Barry Shaw.<\/li>\n<li>Circumnavigation of Ireland in 2013 with Barry Shaw &amp; Roger Chandler<\/li>\n<li>64 nautical mile paddle around Anglesey in 10 hours 8 minutes (2nd fastest person to date).<\/li>\n<li>Kayaking 2500 km along the <a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/sea-kayaking-dvds\/kayaking-the-aleutians\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aleutian island chain<\/a> and Alaskan peninsula with Sarah Outen in 2014 over 101 days<\/li>\n<li>Paddling over 1000km along West Papua &amp; Papua in Indonesia\u00a0with\u00a0<a href=\"\/\/www.sandy-robson.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sandy Robson<\/a>\u00a0in 2016. Sandy is kayaking from Germany to Australia re-tracing the route of Oskar Speck.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/2016\/06\/20\/vancouver-island-solo-circumnavigation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Solo circumnavigation of Vancouver island<\/a> in 32 days in May 2016.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/job-jealousy-justine-curgenven-expedition-sea-L-FlgqFD.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-event-post-thumb wp-image-12391\" src=\"\/\/archive.banskofilmfest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/job-jealousy-justine-curgenven-expedition-sea-L-FlgqFD-460x300.jpeg\" alt=\"job-jealousy-justine-curgenven-expedition-sea-l-flgqfd\" width=\"460\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With help from technical experts (long before GoPro cameras), Justine developed a unique waterproof camera system &amp; suction mount to film seakayaking from her kayak, producing never-before-seen shots of bulging eyes, surprised faces and composure under pressure! Her films are known for their \u2018in your face\u2019 action shots which make you feel like you are in the kayak with expert paddlers. Always looking for a new challenge and with an \u2018anything is possible\u2019 attitude, in 2009 Justine took up open boating and made the first modern canoeing DVD showcasing the different aspects of the sport. \u2018<a href=\"\/\/www.cackletv.com\/sea-kayaking-dvds\/this-is-canoeing\/\" target=\"_blank\">This is Canoeing<\/a>\u201d features many top names, beautiful wilderness journeys and exciting whitewater. In the process, she paddled 370km down Canada\u2019s remote Mountain river, crossed Rannoch Moor in Scotland, paddled down Algonquins Petawawa river &amp; learnt what it is like to pin a canoe on a challenging rapid!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She participated in BanskoFilmFest during the years with the films \u201cSouth Island circumnavigation\u201d, Great Britain, 2008, Justine Curgenven, 48\u2019) in 2012 \u00a0and \u00a0\u201cLand of Fire\u201d, Great Britain, 2012, Justine Curgenven, Barry Shaw, 52\u2019) in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>This year Justin will present the film \u00a0\u201cKayaking the Aleutians\u201d, United Kingdom, 2015, Justine Curgenven, 36\u2019<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6gYn0-QDH0E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><i><span lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cThe story of Sarah and Justine\u2019s 101 day<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-US\"> ordeal is amazing, moving and, above all inspiring. Explorers Justine Curgenven and Sarah Outen set out to paddle 2,500km along the archipelago to the nearest road confronting more than 20 long crossings which separate the tiny unpopulated islands. Sarah faces an even more formidable challenge as this is part of her round-the-world human powered journey and she has limited kayaking experience. Alone for 101 days in one of the windiest, roughest places on earth, these two women are swept away from land by unknown currents, pounded by rough seas and approached by bears.
