NEVEREST – crossing the Atlantic by rowing boat amidst the hurricane season
Without previous experience in rowing, boat building and sailing, Maxim and Stefan Ivanovi built an ocean rowing boat in their garage in Sofia. In the summer of 2020, amidst a coronavirus sticker world and the most active hurricane season in the Atlantic on record, they set off from Portimāo, Portugal and after 105 days on water they managed to cross the ocean reaching Barbados, Caribbean Islands.
- Maxim becomes the “Youngest person to row any ocean (16 years and 293 days old when they depart) – an official Guinness World Record
- NEVEREST becomes “The first rowing boat to cross the Atlantic from east to west entirely within the hurricane season”
- Maxim and Stefan successfully complete the “First ocean rowing expedition for Bulgaria”.
Their voyage is dedicated to the “Yes! For life! (www.zajivot.bg)” campaign of the Ministry of Health of Bulgaria, which aims to encourage more people to decide to become potential organ donors after their death in order to save lives through transplantations.
